The 4th Energy Summit Sustainable, Competitive and Secure in Europe, was held at Nicosia of Cyprus, on November 14th 2011, gathering high level representatives from local and foreign companies that operate in the field of energy. The President of the Republic of Cyprus, H.E. DemetriosChristofias, the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism of Cyprus, Ms. PraxoulaAntoniadou – Kyriacou, the President of the House of Representatives of Cyprus, Mr. YiannakisOmirouand many other personalities, coming from the oil and natural gas sector, have been some of the most distinguished participations during this Summit.
Depa took part with a speech given by Dr. Kostas Karayannakos, Division Head of International Projects. Dr. Karayannakos stretched the progress that the Interconnector Turkey-Greece-Italy has demonstrated and emphasized on how the Interconnector Greece and Bulgaria (IGB) can contribute to the opening of the Southern Corridor by 2013, bringing gas through Greece to Bulgaria and beyond.
The particular Summit gave the opportunity for the examination of the strategic role of Cyprus at the creation of the energy map and emphasized on the possibility of energy investments. At the Summit programme, a great number of speeches took place, where several issues were raised, such as the current energy challenges, the presence and the role of Russia, the possibility of delivering natural gas to Europe through the Caspian and the progress of older and new competitive projects that are implemented for the creation of natural gas interconnectors.
