The marble lions of Delos, dedicated by the Naxians, after being exposed for centuries to the hostile coastal environment and the extreme weather conditions, are now protected in an especially laid-out hall of the island’s archaeological museum.
DEPA, a patron for the protection, highlighting and promotion of the Greek civilization, supported and strengthened the demanding and arduous maintenance work of the Lions of Delos. Let it be noted that the specific work lasted more than 10 years.
The results of the works are shown in the publication of a scientific volume titled: “The Lions of Delos: From the Archaeological Site to the Museum”. The specific publication, illustrated with many photographs, makes references to the study, planning, safe transport, closeness of the copies and to the maintenance and restoration stages of the original sculptures by specialized and prestigious scientists.
The publication bears the seal of the Ministry of Culture & Tourism, the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage and the Directorate of Ancient and Modern Monument Maintenance.
