A natural gas vehicle will become available to facilitate the activities of the Association for the Protection and Development of Mount Hymettus (SPAY). As part of its practice to support all social welfare and environmental protection initiatives, DEPA sponsored the acquisition of a natural gas vehicle in order to support some of SPAY’s far-reaching activities, such as:
– the redevelopment of the area of Mount Hymettus, forest protection activities, activities for the protection of flora and fauna;
– keeping vegetation under careful observation, tree-planting to replace burned and damaged trees etc.; – making the area of Mount Hymettus a meeting point, combining both recreation and education as young people will be given the opportunity to draw lessons for a new way of life.
As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility strategy and along with a number of municipalities in Attica that have joined this effort, DEPA supports all initiatives to develop and upgrade the area of Mount Hymettus.
Using natural gas as a motor fuel helps to reduce pollution, since compressed natural gas (CNG) is considered to be the “cleanest” burning fuel of the new era. Natural gas is the cleanest burning alternative fuel and emits up to 30% less greenhouse gas. Compared to conventional fuels, natural gas also saves up to 60% fuel. It should be noted that DEPA is promoting the use of CNG by developing FISIKON, a network of filling stations for the supply of natural gas vehicles.
